“Everyone IS Blind”

Every day we meet many people, but we forget them. However, some people are really hard to forget. For me, one of those people is Khoshro, a blind girl with a very high level of comprehension and understanding.

I met Khoshro about two and half years ago. I still remember her smile, her face and everything else about her. She is one of those special people- one of the people who will always live in my memories and who I will never forget. She was a tall girl with shiny eyes. Her eyes were incredible- I can never forget their shine. When I looked at her eyes, I would remember a saying I had read in a book: “Eyes can say lots of things and lots of stories which words can’t.”

Khoshro was a quiet girl. She didn’t like to talk too much. However, I liked to listen to her. Her words showed how high her comprehension was. When I first met her I didn’t like her. I was being impatient because she was walking too slowly towards the platform, where she wanted to read a poem. I was bored and looking at her angrily. The only thing I thought about was: “Why is she walking so slowly? It is eating the time.” (=I didn’t know she was BLIND then.) When she finally stood in front of us and got to the microphone in order to start reading the poem, I looked at her and said, “Finally you got there!”

She was silent and looked at everyone with concentration. When she looked at me, I was really impressed. Looking at her, I was charmed. I didn’t have the power to look at her eyes. I didn’t feel bored anymore; neither did I wait for her to start the poem. I felt impressed, charmed… I was so impressed that I even didn’t realize how minutes passed. When she read the poem I couldn’t help crying. The poem she had written was so good- so true. It could make anyone cry. It was like this: “It is true, we are blind but the people around us are even blinder. We are blind but we understand and comprehend many things. We understand what is going on around us, inspite of not seeing it. We can’t see things; instead, we can feel them. In our society, every one is blind. Despite seeing what is going on, they do nothing! This mean they are blinder than what we are.”

Today, after two and half years, I still remember her words and appreciate what she thought. We think we are not blind; however, we are blinder than the blind.

I mean do you have any problem in your life that you write these tragedical stories?
We want to laugh not to cry.

  2. meena says:

Wow nice story. I like this sort of true topic/story. Would you please tell where did you meet her? Where is she now? That you never forget her. Ok nice you are right. We are blinder than blind.

    • Thanks for liking the the story.
I met Khoshro in a conference which was about violence. Unfortunately, I am not pretty sure where she is right now. Sorry.

    Maryam jan,
Khoshro is lucky that she could go to school and could write poems.
What will happen to many other people? There are many blind people who don’t have opportunities and our people, instead of helping them, make fun of them and call them “BLIND!, hahhah”.
This shows how insensitive we are! Do you see the point?
Not everyone is sensitive enough to feel their pain and to give them opprtuinties and to know their abilities. I wish they were.
I almost forgot to say the way you write is very attractive.

    • Yeah, Mr. Nawa
You are right. Some people are really insensitive. I know lots of people (form the blind) who have the ability to go to school, but they don’t WANT to go because people make fun of them.
That is very sad, isn’t it?
